vignetteType of protection : Site listed in the supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments in 1943, the Mill is classified as a historic monument with its pulleys, millstones, wallowers and screw jacks.

Construction materials : half-timbering and cob.
Surface area of the property not built upon : Grounds of 15 hectares
Surface area : Difficult to establish because of the number of buildings that make up the property : mill, outbuildings, sheepfold, stable and orangery

Successive owners : seigneurial property in the Middle Ages. After a succession of owners, it became the property of Suzanne Lipinska’s father, who bought it in 1949.

Some of the many improvements and extensions made :

  • When Suzanne set up house at the Moulin with her three children in 1956, there were four rooms, one bathroom and two toilets for visitors’ use.
  • 1956-1962: a flurry of building and improvements to the property in this period saw the following developments:
    • Refurbishment of the Moulin (the central building)
    • Construction of the bridge and two stone staircases along the south-west façade of the Mill, to reach the Island (1957)
    • Creation of a Studio for painters, the “Atelier” (1959)
    • Renovation of a large room and garage in the “Atelier” (Studio)
  • 1963 : Conversion of the Orangery into a Theatre
  • 1966 : Extension of the Mill to extend the dining-room and refurbish new rooms.
  • 1974 : Refurbishment of the house known as “Les Serres” (The Greenhouse) to create several new rooms
  • 1980 : Conversion of the garages into a work room : “La Grange” (The Barn)
  • 1983 : Repair of the banks downstream from the Mill and installation of outdoor lighting
  • 1989 : Construction of the Maison du Laurier (House of the Bay Tree) with its coffee bar, four rooms with bathrooms and work room
  • 1994 : New extension of the Theatre with the construction of a second 100 m2 room, a new professionally-equipped kitchen and additional toilets
  • 1996 : Refurbishment of a relaxation area in “Les Serres “ (Greenhouse) veranda, piano, bar counter with fountain and lighting.
